On June 30, 2008; Union County celebrated the retirement of one of its most valuable assets, Mrs. Georgene Berg. At an open house held at Prevention Links, community members ranging from Prevention Specialists, Local Officials, Staff, Friends, and Family celebrated her decades of dedication to Union County. Mrs. Berg was toasted particularly for her accomplishments in the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Prevention field and for her ten years with Prevention Links. To honor Mrs. Berg, Prevention Links dedicated their Countywide Resource Center in Clark to Mrs. Berg and named it the “Georgene Berg Resource Center”.
The Resource Center provides Union County Residents with over 200,000 pieces of material and maintains a collection of over 1200 titles. Mrs. Berg has worked tireless for the past decade to expand the resource center into what it is today. Some of Ms. Berg’s other career highlights include both volunteering and serving the Scotch Plains/Fanwood Municipal Alliance and Parent Teacher Association. She was also a key member in the formation and development of the Union County Coalition for Substance Abuse.
Ms. Berg originally was hired as an administrative assistant and ended up having a key role in building Prevention Links to what it is today. She has coordinated Union County’s Red Ribbon Drug Awareness Event for the past ten years and was able to expand the event into one of Union County’s premier family events. Her many accomplishments and untiring efforts have helped to create a safer, healthier Union County.
